- Take no antihistamines, sleeping pills, anti-depressants, or diuretics for 72 hours prior to the appointment.
- If taking Atarax or Vistarial (hydroxyzine), do not take this medication for 5 days prior to the appointment.
- If patient is a child, the parent or legal custodian must accompany the patient. If the parent is unable to accompany the patient a written and signed release must be brought with the patient.
- IMPORTANT: Continue all other medications such as antibiotics, asthma inhalers, heart meds, blood pressure meds, etc.
- Antihistamines include: Allegra(fexofenadine), Astelin, Benadryl, Claritin(Loratadine), Clarinex(Desloratadine), Zyrtec(cetirizine), Tavist, Diphenhydramine, Semprex D, Actifed, Allerest, Atarax, Brompheniramine, Coricidin, Cyproheptadine(periactin), DA chewable, Rynatan, Deconamine, Dimetapp, Doxepin, Drixoral, Meclizine, Pheniramine, Polyhistine, Promethazine, Robitussin DM, Rondec, Ru-Tuss, Seldane, Triaminic, and Trinalin.
- Over the counter cough and cold medicines.
Singulair should be stopped two days prior instead of three.
Anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications include but are not limited to: Prozac, Effexor, Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, Imipramine, Wellbutrin, Remeron, Serzone, Parnate, Buspar, Luvox, Cymbalata and Lexipro. Anti-anxiety meds such as Xanax, Valium, and Ativan should also be avoided.
Diuretics include but are not limited to: HCTZ, Diazide, Maxide, Prinzide, Uniretic, Vasoretic, Zestoretic, Hyzaar, Diovan HCT, Lasix, Furosemide, Hydrochlorothiazide, Aldactone, Demedex, Hydrodiuril, Diamax, Moduretic, Dyrenium, Diuril, Midamor, Indapamide, Microzide, Diucardin, Quinapril, and Turosemide.
Sleeping pills include but are not limited to: Trazadone, Nembutal, ProSom, Versed, Valium, Ambien, Simply Sleep, Sonata, and Tylenol PM.
